On February 14, 2025, we celebrated another milestone in the conservation of the Maya Biosphere Reserve with the formal signing of the Conservation Agreement in its third phase. This agreement, signed between S. C. Selva Maya del Norte and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), aims to protect and manage the La Colorada-El Molino Management Unit.
This significant achievement is part of the Friends of the Northern Maya Forest initiative, composed of the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP) Region VIII-Petén, Rainforest Alliance (RA), Fundación Naturaleza para la Vida (NPV), the Asociación de Comunidades Forestales de Petén (ACOFOP), and Fundación PROPETEN. Together, they work to ensure the protection, conservation, and sustainable management of the territory.

Conservation Agreements are essential tools for safeguarding biodiversity, generating social benefits, and strengthening governance under the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consultation.
We extend our gratitude to the Overbrook Foundation for its continued support of conservation efforts in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, Petén, Guatemala.
